PLEDGE TO STOP HUMAN TRAFFICKING…FOR GOOD
DID YOU KNOW?
Many of the pastimes of our culture contribute to human trafficking, and we don’t even know it. You may have unknowingly participated in them in the past, but what matters is that you refrain from them in the future.
Be part of our pledge, that from now on, we won’t participate in acts that encourage, influence, support, or drive victims into human trafficking for labor or sex. Here are activities you may have been a part of in the past that you commit not to do in the future:
• Have you attended a strip club, hired a stripper or prostitute for a bachelor party for your own enjoyment or watched porn? Maybe you watched porn for something as seemingly harmless as creating spice in the bedroom?
Here’s the backstory: Many of the performers are being trafficked. You won’t know it because they are forced through threats and abuse to make it look like they are having a good time. Imagine the person in front of you being abducted or was a runaway who was captured by traffickers. Now, this individual earns money for the trafficker knowing he or she will be starved or beaten if he or she doesn’t meet that day’s quota.
• Sex parties are where victims are traded, rented and purchased to perform sexual acts. Legal age is not accounted for, and many of the buyers prefer underage children. This, too, takes place all over the world, and even in hotels and houses in your neighborhood. Superbowl, March Madness, Vegas events, truck stops, major interstate exits are common locations. Again, the individuals participating may look as if they’re doing it freely, but all too often they’re being forced to do it and the money ends up with a trafficker.
Any of us may have participated in these kinds of activities in the past. Sometimes we knew, and sometimes we didn’t. What’s important now, is what we do from now on. We now know more, and we can pledge to act for GOOD! Join our Pledge to Stop Human Trafficking…for Good.
